Service resumes on Line 2 after fire in tunnel at Dundas West Station

Subway service has resumed on Line 2 after a fire broke out at Dundas West Station during the Monday morning rush.
Subway service was shut down between Jane and Ossington stations after reports of smoke in the tunnel just after 7 a.m. Service resumed just before 10 a.m.
“This morning’s west-end TTC commute was frustrating for all involved. Honestly, we get that and we apologize. Our subway infrastructure crews are still looking into root causes of the fire that halted service for three hours,” TTC spokesperson Stuart Green said in a tweet.
“This is the second time in a month we’ve had an issue possibly related to the age of Line 2. That’s why our CEO previously ordered an infrastructure review of the line. As outlined in our Capital Investment Plan, modernizing electrical systems will be a huge part of that.”
The fire was about 50 feet from the platform on the westbound track at Dundas West Station.
The train and platform were evacuated as power was cut and crews went down to investigate. Passengers who were on the train had to walk down the tunnel to the platform.
Green said a wooden cover board contacted the the third rail, sparking the fire.
