By News Staff

A developer with a track record of preserving heritage buildings is now the new owner of the Gladstone Hotel on Queen West.

Streetcar Developments and Dream Unlimited have purchased the landmark which is the city’s oldest continually operating hotel in the West Queen West neighbourhood.

The Gladstone underwent a major renovation in 2005 to preserve it.

The now former owner said the decision to sell is a personal one and she wanted to sell it to someone who understands its historical and cultural significance.

“I looked for someone with the vision to carry on the legacy of the Gladstone Hotel,” said President Christina Zeidler in a release. “It took a long time to build the culture around the Gladstone. The commitment to continue to grow this vision is a dream come true.”

Streetcar and Dream Unlimited are known for having a portfolio of character buildings of historical significance. They were responsible for the renovation of the Broadview Hotel in Queen East.

The developers are expected to take ownership of the property later this month.
