A Toronto man is under arrest for attempting to ship fake COVID-19 test kits into the United States.

Toronto Police say they received a tip from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security after a parcel was intercepted at the Canada-U.S. border on Wednesday.

Police say the parcel contained 25 individual coronavirus test kits.

An investigation revealed that several other parcels containing fake test kits had previously been sent from the same address.

A search warrant was executed on Thursday at a residence in the area of Cosburn and Pape avenues and a 43-year-old man was arrested.

Police say Jesse Wong is facing charges of fraud under $5,000 and possession of forgery device.

“Toronto Police would like to remind the public to be extra vigilant when it comes to those trying to sell or provide products or services associated to Covid-19. There are no legitimate ‘home test kits’ available,” police said in a statement.
