Ontario has confirmed 459 new cases of novel coronavirus today, marking a 2.9 per cent increase in total cases over yesterday.

The provincial total now stands at 16,187.

The updated numbers include 86 more deaths, bringing the total to 1,082. This is the largest death toll for a single day in Ontario.

Figures on COVID-19’s impact in long-term care homes, which come from a separate database than the provincial numbers, show 60 more residents died in the past day.

There are now outbreaks at 163 long-term care homes, up from 159 on Wednesday.

Hospitalizations jumped 22 to 999 while those in the ICU and on ventilators continue to decline slightly.

Resolved cases jumped from 9,612 to 10,205.

There were 12,928 COVID-19 tests completed over the last 24 hour period, despite a pledge from the province to reach 14,000 tests a day by then. The government had previously promised to reach 18,900 tests a day by mid-April.

The City of Toronto saw its confirmed cases jump by 191 on Thursday to total of 5,551. Another 239 patients have recovered, bringing the total to 3,392.

Hospitalizations were down to 345 and the number of patients in the ICU and on ventilators remained unchanged.

Public health officials say another 19 deaths were recorded, bringing the total up to 366.
