Peel police are searching for two suspects after a shooting and brazen carjacking in Mississauga on Friday night.

Police say they were attempting to make an arrest in the area of Burnamthorpe Road and Brickstone Mews near Confederation Parkway around 7 p.m. when someone began shooting at police.

Police say they returned fire “to protect themselves.”

One of four suspects then rammed a tactical vehicle with their own car before attempting to flee on foot, at which point they commandeered a black pick up with an 8-year-old girl inside.

Eyewitness video sent to CityNews appears to show the moment of the carjacking. In it, two people are forced out of a black pick up truck which then speeds away.

“Police, police, police,” someone is heard yelling as officer’s who were at one end of the street begin to converge on the scene.

“My daughter is in the car! My daughter is in the car,” a visibly upset man is then heard yelling as at least a half dozen police cars go chasing after the vehicle. “Please stop this guy.”

Police say during the chase, the suspect pushed the girl from the vehicle. She was rescued by officers who determined she had not suffered any serious physical injuries. She has since been reunited with her family.

Officers caught up with the stolen vehicle almost five kilometres away at Eglinton Avenue and Creditview Road, where the suspect abandoned the car and fled on foot.

Aerial support from York Region was called in to assist police in a search for the man, however, police have since determined that the suspect is no longer in that particular area.

Police have released a description of the second suspect who was last seen leaving a building at the original scene of the shooting and carjacking. He’s described as Black, approximately 5-foot-8 to 6-feet tall with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a white tank top, gold head cloth covering and crystal-like earrings, white ankle socks and no shoes.

“We have looked at surveillance footage, we have clear images of the suspect,” said Cst. Akhil Mooken. “That’s why I’m encouraging them, we will find you. Speak to a lawyer, turn yourself in.”

Police say the four were wanted for a series of bank and pharmacy robberies across the GTA. The two outstanding suspects should be considered armed and dangerous.
