Statue of former PM Pierre Trudeau in Vaughan vandalized again

By News Staff

For the second time this year, the statue of former Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau in Vaughan was vandalized.

Three sides of the statue’s base were spray-painted with the word “pedo” in white and white paint was sprayed on the statue itself as well.

Back in June, the statue’s face had been spray-painted black.

Police are aware of the incident, but no further details are available at this time.

Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua said he was disappointed to learn of the vandalism.

“I am disappointed to learn acts of vandalism are taking place in our city as these actions do not reflect the values Vaughan stands for,” he said in a statement Sunday. “The former prime minister created opportunities for Canadians and newcomers so that we may all live peacefully and free from discrimination. These values must continue to be reflected in our city and country as we continue to build a fair, just and compassionate society.”
