A man is dead and another is in custody following a double-shooting in downtown Oshawa.

Durham Regional Police say they were called to an area on Simcoe Street near Athol Street around 10:30 a.m. following reports of “multiple shots fired.”

Police say 27-year-old Justin Blight was without vital signs and was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries a short time later.

A 35-year-old man, also suffering from gunshot wounds, was found at the scene, and taken to a trauma centre in Toronto with life-threatening injuries. He is currently in stable condition.

Police have since identified the second man as Noah Renison. He has been charged with first-degree murder.

Police said a helicopter was brought in to assist in determining the actual scene of the shooting with reports that it may have happened within a residence or on a rooftop or in a nearby alleyway. Police say a firearm was discovered at the scene.

Investigators would not elaborate on the relationship between the two men.
