Toronto reports record COVID-19 cases for 2nd-straight day

Ontario is reporting 1,707 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday.
This is a slight decrease from the 1,746 reported on Monday but it comes with another significant drop in completed tests.
The province reported over 34,600 tests completed compared to 39,400 on Monday. Completed tests topped 50,000 the three previous days.
The seven-day average of daily cases now sits at 1,670.
There were seven new deaths reported. This follows eight reported a day earlier which marked a drop from previous days where the number hovered around 20.
There are 1,373 more resolved cases.
There is now a total of 118,499 confirmed cases in the province since the onset of the pandemic with 3,663 deaths. Over 100,000 cases have now been resolved.
Among active cases, 645 people are currently in the hospital compared to 618 the day before. Among the hospitalized, 185 are in the ICU and 112 are currently on ventilators. These numbers are up from 168 and 108 the day before.
Locally, there are 727 new cases in Toronto, 373 in Peel and 168 in York Region.
Toronto is reporting a single-day record for the second straight day and is responsible for over 40 per cent of all cases reported on Tuesday.
The city reported 622 new cases on Monday.
All other regions in the GTA except for Halton saw a decrease.
Peel drops again to 373 from 390. This after the region reported four straight days of 500 cases prior to Mondays report.
York drops to 168 from 217. Durham is down to 72 from 108. Halton reports 47 new cases compared to 35 the day before.
COVID-19 in schools
The province reported 299 new cases in schools. This is the highest number ever reported and nearly three times more than the 102 reported a day earlier.
Among the cases in schools, 253 are related to students, while 46 are linked to staff.
737 schools in the province currently have a reported case which is up from 670 a day earlier.. Six schools in Ontario are currently closed as a result of COVID-19.
