A winter weather travel advisory was in effect for the GTA but has since been lifted.
Environment Canada said between 10-15 centimetres was expected by later in the morning on Christmas Day.
A white Christmas is defined by the national weather agency as having at least two centimetres of snow on the ground.
Meanwhile, a snow squall watch is in effect for Barrie-Orillia-Midland, with the potential of 15-30 centimetres of snow.
“Lake-effect snow squalls are forecast to develop this afternoon. These snow squalls are then expected to last into Saturday before finally weakening,” Environment Canada said in its watch.
