City’s speed enforcement program issued more than 50,000 tickets in first round

In the first round of the City’s automated speed enforcement program 53,090 tickets were issued.

The City says the 50 speed cameras, which collected data between July 6th and November 30th, had a positive impact on driver behaviour, with a steady reduction in speeding tickets and repeat offenders.

During the first month of enforcement, the devices issued 22,301 tickets and detected 2,239 repeat offenders.

By the last month, 5,174 tickets were given out and there were only 251 repeat offenders.

The City says the device on Renforth Drive near Lafferty Street issued the most tickets during the first round of the program. The highest fine of $718 was given to a driver in that area — caught going 89 kilometres per hour in a 40 zone.
