Off-duty York regional police detective charged with sexual assault

By News Staff

A detective with York Regional Police has been charged with sexual assault in connection to an incident that allegedly occurred while the detective was off-duty.

The detective, who has been employed with York police since 2004, was also charged with sexual exploitation.

York police requested an independent investigation by Toronto police, which ultimately led to the charges being laid on Friday.

Police say the accused cannot be named in order to protect the identity of the alleged victim.
