Man charged following hate-motivated assault in Toronto

One man has been arrested in connection to a hate-motivated assault investigation in Toronto’s financial district.
Officers were first notified of the incident around midnight on April 10 in the Wellington Street West and Simcoe Street area.
It’s alleged a 22-year-old man was skateboarding and passed a man who uttered a racial comment and then assaulted him with an object.
The suspect then continued to utter racial slurs.
The victim flagged down an officer who was in the area for help and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On April 11, police arrested 41-year-old Hussein Hassan Yusuf of no fixed address was arrested who was subsequently charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, and obstruction of a peace officer.
He appeared in court that Sunday.
Toronto police believe Yusuf may have interacted with others that night and into the early hours of April 11 in the area of College and Yonge Streets.
They’re urging anyone with information to come forward.
