Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for parts of the GTA including Toronto, calling for hot and humid conditions on Friday.

“Maximum temperatures near 31 C are expected today followed by an overnight minimum temperature near 20 C, providing little relief from the heat,” the national weather agency said.

CityNews weather specialist Frank Ferragine said Toronto will see a high of 31 C but it will feel like 33 C with the humidity.

The record high set in Toronto for May 21 was 32.2 set in 1941.

Ferragine said the humidity continues into Saturday with the temperature feeling more like 34 C — with a storm risk in the afternoon.

Showers move in on Sunday, bringing with it a cooler air mass, and by Victoria Day on Monday, the daytime temperature will fall to 18 C.
