Toronto Police say they have arrested a man who they believe killed one child and seriously injured another after poisoning their cereal.

On March 7, police and the Ontario Coroner’s office commenced an investigation into the death of a three-year-old child.

It is alleged that Francis Ngugi, 45, of Toronto, accessed a control substance from his place of employment and placed it in the children’s cereal during a sleep over.

Both children were taken to hospital where the three-year-old later died. The other child required a lengthy hospital stay, police say.

On June 19, police arrested Ngugi in connection to the child’s death.

Ngugi is facing multiple charges including two counts of administer noxious substance to endanger life.
