Suspect arrested in alleged Brampton kidnapping; mother, children unharmed

Peel Police say they have a man in custody following an alleged kidnapping in Brampton.

Investigators say the incident began around 4:30 p.m. Saturday when they were called to a residence in the area of Queen Street East and Hanson Road North. Based on evidence at the scene, police believed a 36-year-old woman and two children – a 4-year-old boy and a 2-month old girl – had been taken against their will by a 27-year-old man.

Shortly before 8 p.m., police reported that the suspect and three victims had been located near Bovaird and Bramalea roads in Brampton.

“At this point we do have a male in custody, the male who we identified on social media,” said Cst. Heather Cannon, who added that the 36-year-old woman and her two children were in good health at a local hospital.

Police would not elaborate on the relationship between the four except to say the man and the woman were known to each other.

Investigators are still trying to determine exactly what happened and if the incident was in fact an abduction.

“When we initiated this investigation at 4:30, we believed at that point that this was a kidnapping and abduction,” said Cannon. “If it turns out that this is not the case, it’s possible no charges are laid – it depends on the investigation and what unfolds as officer’s continue to look into this.”
