An officer with Peel Regional Police is facing criminal assault charges related to a fight that happened in Brampton while he was off duty.

The internal affairs bureau has charged Const. Pawan Sandhu with one count of assault, assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats.

Sandhu has been with the service for five years. He’s been suspended with pay which is standard procedure under the police services act.

Peel Regional Police spokesperson and Const. Sarah Patten says Sandhu will appear in court on January 10.

Once the court proceedings have finished, a police services act investigation will follow, and that will determine if Sandhu gets to keep his job.
