Mild temperatures expected to last all week in the GTA

If you haven’t already, Monday looks to be a great day to put those holiday decorations up outside — with full sun in the forecast and an expected high of 18 C.

This week’s warmer weather — due to a shift in the jet stream — is a far cry from last Thursday and Friday’s cold that had many breaking out the winter parkas.  Last week, lows were hovering around 0 C.

CityNews meteorologist Jill Taylor says it will also be warmer than usual overnight.

“We’ll be about 8 C for the overnight low and that’s actually closer to the average daytime highs. The temperatures for the highs, the lows — all well-above average,” adds Taylor.

While Monday won’t set any records, it will come close. Taylor says the record for a Nov. 8 was actually set last year when the mercury hit 20.1 C at Pearson.

The double-digit highs are expected to stick around for the rest of the week, with temperatures averaging around 12 C.

These higher temperatures will also be a great opportunity for drivers to get those winter tires on, if they haven’t already.

The best time to install winter tires is before the temperature drops below 7 C or before the first snowfall.

However, this mild stretch won’t last long with the cooler weather expected to make a return in time for the weekend.
