Toronto police say they believe a coyote that ETF officers shot and killed in a North York schoolyard on Monday morning was the same one that attacked two people at Bayview Village Park on Sunday.
CityNews has learned a caretaker at Hollywood Public School called police at around 7:51 a.m. to report a coyote wandering in the schoolyard.
The animal was sitting along the schoolyard fence when it was shot. All the students were reportedly inside the school at the time.
The school is less than a kilometre away from Bayview Village Park, where two people were bitten by an “aggressive” coyote on Sunday.
“On arrival, it was determined the coyote was believed to be the same one that had attacked two people this weekend,” police said in a statement to CityNews.
“There were concerns the animal would continue to roam and from a public safety standpoint, a decision was made to put the animal down.”
Toronto police say they coordinated with the school to assure no children witnessed the animal being killed.

On Sunday, police advised the public to avoid Bayview Village Park until the coyote issue was “resolved.”
“What I have been told by officers that are in the area is that they’re encouraging and strongly recommending citizens to stay away from the Bayview Village Park area to avoid any further attacks from this coyote,” Const. Alex Li said.
