Ontario reports more than 800 new COVID-19 cases

Ontario is reporting 854 new COVID-19 cases and two additional deaths on Saturday.

The weekly average now sits at 729, up nearly 100 cases from one week ago and reaching the highest point since Sep. 17.

Ontario reported 728 new cases last Saturday.

There were 31,444 tests completed in the last 24-hour period for a test positivity rate of 3 per cent.

Locally, there are 97 cases in Toronto, 47 in Peel, 48 in York Region and 27 in Durham.

Among the new cases, 474 are in people who are not fully vaccinated and 31 are in individuals with an unknown vaccination status. Residents who are not fully vaccinated represent just under 24 per cent of the province’s population and just over half of Saturday’s new infections.

There are 254 people in the province hospitalized with COVID-19 and 134 in the ICU. ICU occupancy is down six from a day ago.

Among the individuals in the ICU, 123 are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status.

An additional 29,674 vaccine doses were administered in the last day, 89.4 per cent of Ontarians 12 and older have one dose and 86.3 per cent are now fully vaccinated.
