Halton police say the bomb squad was called to an Oakville plaza Friday to investigate a ‘suspicious item’.
Just before 4:30 p.m. police said they were called to the plaza at 2431 Trafalgar Road just south of Dundas Street East after receiving reports of a suspicious item at the rear of the complex. Patrons and staff from two stores were evacuated and all entrances to the plaza were closed as police investigated.
Trafalgar Road was closed in both directions between Postridge Drive and Dundas Street East.
Additional evacuation notices were issued for nearby businesses in the area “as a precautionary measure”, police said.
Just after 10 p.m., the Explosives Disposal Unit deemed the scene “clear and secure” but provided no further details as to what the suspicious item was.
“We are grateful for the cooperation and patience of the community this evening, particularly local businesses that were affected,” they tweeted.
The HRPS has responded to the retail plaza at 2431 Trafalgar Rd. (SE corner of Trafalgar /Dundas St. E.) in Oakville for reports of a suspicious item.
