The province is reporting 1,536 new cases of COVID-19 and one additional death on Monday.
This is the sixth straight day Ontario has reported more than 1,000 daily infections.
On Sunday, there were 1,476 new COVID-19 cases and eight additional deaths reported. While on Saturday, the case count topped 1,600 — the highest number of daily infections the province has seen in more than six months.
Ontario health officials say 254 people with COVID-19 are being treated in hospital, and 161 are in the ICU.
The seven-day average has jumped to 1,328 — that’s up 388 cases from a week ago.
Just over 38,000 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours, for a positivity rate of 5.5 per cent.
Meantime, Health Minister Christine Elliott said as of Monday morning just over 90 per cent of Ontario residents 12 and over have at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, with 88 per cent of that group now fully vaccinated.
The number of unvaccinated individuals with the virus in Monday’s tally stands at 634, while 93 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 have an unknown vaccination status.

These new numbers come as we get an update from Ontario’s COVID-19 Science Advisory Table on Monday afternoon that Omicron accounts for nearly 31 per cent of the province’s COVID cases — that’s about 450 cases/day. In fact, officials say the number of Omicron cases is doubling every three days.
Currently, there are 80 confirmed cases of the Omicron variant.
