Ontario reports over 3,000 COVID-19 cases for the first time since early May

Ontario is reporting 3,124 COVID-19 cases on Friday, the first time since May 9 cases have jumped over 3,000.

There were five additional deaths reported, for a total of 10,107

It’s another sharp increase of Thursday’s count of 2,421 people testing positive for the virus and more than double the number of cases since 1,453 were reported last Friday.

The test percentage positivity is 8.2 per cent as just over 51,000 tests were completed.

Hospitalizations are up by 30 admissions for a total of 358 patients testing positive for COVID-19 while ICUs are down eight at 157.

The Ontario COVID-19 science advisory table revealed yesterday cases could jump to 10,000 a day by January if contacts are not cut by 50 per cent.

An additional 156,525 vaccinations were given out yesterday. A total of 1,578,642 people have received a third booster COVID-19 vaccine.
