A woman is dead following an early morning fire at an apartment in Scarborough.
Fire crews were called to Pell Street and Latham Avenue, south of Kingston Road, just after 1:30 a.m. on Monday for reports of smoke billowing from the second floor of the suburban highrise.
Paramedics tell CityNews a woman, said to be in her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second person was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
Scarborough councillor Gary Crawford says that no other tenants were seriously injured in the fire.
“The investigation into the origin, cause and circumstances of this fire will be conducted by TFS, Toronto Police and the Ontario Fire Marshal,” Crawford said on Facebook.
Police say TTC shelter buses have assisted displaced tenants. Few other details have been released.
