Poll: Most Canadians optimistic that 2022 will be a ‘good year’

A new survey suggests the majority of Canadian have an optimistic outlook for 2022 as they get ready to ring in the new year.

The results of the recent Maru public opinion poll show nearly half of Canadians, 47 per cent, say that 2021 was a bad year for themselves and their families but 69 per cent believe 2022 will be a good year.

Just over half of respondents believe that COVID-19 can be defeated in 2022. By using vaccines and personal habits, 52 per cent of Canadians said the country will put the pandemic behind it by the end of next year.

Three-quarters of those polled are concerned that unvaccinated individuals will keep the country in a continual cycle of the pandemic and 60 per cent don’t believe there are too many consequences for people who have not received a shot.

Approximately half of respondents (51 per cent) believe their financial situation will improve next year and less than half (46 per cent) think 2022 will be promising for the economy.

The majority of Canadians, 55 per cent, plan to make New Year’s resolutions for 2022.

The survey was taken on Dec. 20 involving more than 1,500 Canadian adults who are Maru online panelists who were randomly selected and has a margin of error of +/- 2.5 per cent, 19 times out of 20.
