Two new films from Denzel entering the MUST-WATCH Top 10 this week! But can either of them stand a chance against a couple of nostalgic throwbacks? You’ll have to keep reading to find out!
The Tragedy of Macbeth
Where to watch: Cinemas
Starting this week off with the latest Shakespeare adaptation!

Macbeth in the Tragedy of Macbeth.
The Tragedy of Macbeth is the newest film from Joel Coen, working without his brother Ethan for the first time in their career (they’d previously directed films like the Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, and Hail Caesar!). This latest take on the Bard’s tragedy stars Denzel Washington (from Fences and Training Day) as the one-time King of Scotland, and Frances McDormand (from Nomadland and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) as his scheming wife. Shot entirely in black and white, this film brings a new vibrancy to one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays. It also stars Corey Hawkins (from Straight Outta Compton), Brendan Gleeson (from 28 Days Later), and Alex Hassell (from Cowboy Bebop).

The Book of Boba Fett

Next up, a trip to a galaxy far, far away!
The Book of Boba Fett is the latest Star Wars tv show. It stars Temuera Morrison (from Aquaman and Moana) as everyone’s favourite bounty hunter, reprising the role from the Mandalorian. In this show, he’s decided bounty hunting isn’t for him anymore. He decides to enter into business for himself as a mob boss, taking over the gang left by Jabba the Hutt. This show also stars Ming Na-wen (from Mulan), Jennifer Beals (from Flashdance), and Matt Berry (from Toast of London).
The first episode is out on Disney+ now, you can check out the others every week!
A Journal for Jordan
Where to watch: Cinemas
Next up, another film from Denzel!
A Journal for Jordan is a film directed by Denzel Washington, but not starring him. Instead, this film stars Michael B. Jordan (from Black Panther and the Wire) and Chanté Adams (from Roxanne Roxanne and the Photograph). They play a married couple who become pregnant right as he’s about to ship out to Iraq. She buys him a journal so he can write messages for their unborn child, in case he dies while overseas. It’s an incredibly emotional film, best watched with your loved ones.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts is a special created entirely to reflect on the majesty of the Harry Potter series. 20 years later, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint have moved on to tons of other work, like Miracle Workers, the Bling Ring, and Sick Note. This special sees them returning to the sets and revisiting the memories of their crazy childhoods, starring in one of the biggest franchises of all time. They’re also joined by tons of other returning actors, including Jason Isaacs (from Star Trek Discovery), Tom Felton (from the Flash) and Helena Bonham Carter (from the Crown).

The Lost Daughter
Where to watch: Netflix
Lastly, let’s check out a strong directorial debut from an amazing actor!

Olivia Colman in the Lost Daughter.
The Lost Daughter is the first film directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal (from the Dark Knight and Secretary). This film stars Olivia Colman (from the Favourite and the Father) as a woman who takes a vacation to a beach resort. While she’s there, she meets a younger woman (played by Dakota Johnson from Suspiria) who’s visiting the resort with her daughter. While getting to know the two of them, Colman’s character has flash backs to when she was a younger woman (played by Jessie Buckley from Fargo and I’m Thinking of Ending Things) who did something unspeakable involving her own children.
