Ontario Place architect Eb Zeidler dead at 95

Well-known German-Canadian architect Eberhard Zeidler, known for designing several prominent Toronto landmarks, has died at the age of 95.
Among his works in Toronto, Ziedler created the plans for the Eaton Centre, Ontario Place and the Toronto Centre of the Arts.
Eb’s prolific career, philosophical views on city building and pioneering design have inspired architects all over the world. He will be greatly missed.

He also designed over 1,000 projects around the world, including Canada Place in Vancouver, the Raymond F Kravis Centre for the Performing Arts in Florida and the Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco.
Born in Germany in 1926, he moved to Canada in the 1950s. Zeidler was made an officer of the Order of Canada in 1984 and received a medal from the Royal Architectyre Institute of Canada in 1986.
Toronto Mayor John Tory tweeted a tribute, saying Zeidler’s work is “representative of a legacy that will live on.”
