Toronto police officer charged in sexual assault investigation

A veteran Toronto police officer has been arrested in connection to a sexual assault investigation.

On Thursday, Toronto Police’s Professional Standards unit announced that Staff Sergeant Jai Escott, 47, has been charged with one count of sexual assault in connection to an incident dating back to December, 2013.

No further details regarding the investigation were released.

Police say Escott has been a member of the force for 19 years and has been suspended with pay while he awaits trial.

Escott is scheduled to appear in court in February.
