2 charged with first-degree murder in fatal Ajax shooting

Durham regional police have charged two people with first-degree murder after a fatal shooting in Ajax last summer.
Police were called to a home on Smith Lane at around 12:00 a.m. on June 2, 2021.
“Officers attended the residence and located the victim who had been shot multiple times. He was taken to a trauma centre in Toronto with critical injuries and was later pronounced dead,” police said in a release.
The victim was later identified as Trurell Brown, 29, of Ajax.
On Wednesday, two suspects were arrested.
Jordan Mendez, 29, and Leighton Hopkinson, 30, both of Toronto were charged with first-degree murder in the killing.
