CityNews, Breakfast Television up for total 5 nominations at Canadian Screen Awards

Citytv has scored five nominations for the 2022 Canadian Screen Awards, which honours the best in film, television and digital media.

The nominations in 145 categories were announced Tuesday by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television.

CityNews at 6 was nominated in two categories, including Best Local Newscast and Best Local Reporter (Shauna Hunt).

Breakfast Television was nominated in three categories, including Best Host, Talk Show or Entertainment News (co-hosts Dina Pugliese-Mirkovich and Sid Seixeiro), Best Morning Show (executive producer Laura Reiter and supervising producer Rob Hynes), and Best Live News Special (The Truth About Reconciliation).

“During this time of isolation, the arts have served as a necessary connection point that keeps communities together and helps them grow stronger through the power of inspiring storytelling,” said John Young, Chair, Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, in a statement.

“Through their hard work, these talented 2022 Canadian Screen Award nominees are doing just that. It is a privilege to recognize those who are making a lasting impact when we need it most.”

The CBC series Sort Of leads the nominations with 13, following the network’s Pretty Hard Cases and CTV Sci-Fi Channel’s Wynonna Earp with 11, and CBC’s Coroner and Kim’s Convenience with 10. Click here for a full list of the nominees.

Last year, CityNews was awarded Best Local Newscast, and the win marked the second year in a row the newscast took the top spot in the category.

The awards will be presented over six days during Canadian Screen Week. The majority of the awards will be presented in a nine-part series, which will be streamed live on Academy.ca and the its Twitter and YouTube channels April 4-8.

The Canadian Screen Awards show will be broadcast on CBC and CBC Gem on Sunday, April 10, at 8 p.m. ET.
