Toronto murder suspect returned, charged after L.A. arrest

A Toronto man who fled the country has been arrested and is facing a first degree murder charge after a fatal North York shooting more than one year ago.

A 20-year-old man was shot multiple times as he drove his car into the parking garage on Falstaff Avenue near Jane Street on Jan 31, 2021.

The victim, identified as Hashim Omar Hashi of Toronto, was pronounced dead on scene.

Police said the suspect’s vehicle was found a short time later, fully engulfed in flames at Earl Bales Park.

Police arrested 23-year old Hassan Abdibarik Ali several months later in Los Angeles on Oct. 7. Ali was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department on a provisional American arrest warrant.

Investigators returned Ali to Toronto on Thursday and he has been charged with first degree murder.
