An elderly woman died after being struck by a vehicle and pinned underneath in downtown Toronto.

Toronto Police received a call just after 11:30 a.m. for reports that a woman was hit by an 80-year-old female, who was driving a dark purple Honda at the intersection of Bay and College Streets.

The victim — an 80-year-old woman — was struck at a crosswalk while traversing College Street. Police say she became trapped underneath the car and was later freed, suffering critical injuries as a result.

She was rushed to a trauma centre, where she later died.

Const. David Hopkinson tells CityNews good samaritans came over to help get the woman out from under the car.

The driver remained on the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.

Police are asking locals, businesses and drivers who may have security or dash-camera footage of the area or incident to come forward.
