Toronto man, woman face hundreds of charges in sexual abuse investigation

By Lucas Casaletto

A man and woman from Toronto face hundreds of sexual abuse-related charges involving over 40 victims.

Police opened an investigation into the allegations just over two years ago, in January 2020.

It’s alleged that over the last 17 years, the man and woman committed multiple sexual and physical assaults against men, women and children in the Danforth Avenue and Dawes Road area, as well as the Danforth Road and Eglinton Avenue East area.

Several incidents were recorded and shared online, police say.

As a result of the investigation, 37-year-old Martin “Mark” Wettlaufer and 42-year-old Kathleen Wardlaw — both of Toronto — were arrested.

Wettlaufer and Wardlaw face “hundreds of offences” concerning 41 victims that have come forward to date. There are many unidentified victims, and police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying them.
