18 COVID-related deaths reported in Ontario, hospitalizations continue to fall

Ontario COVID-19 hospitalizations are continuing the downward trend on Saturday.

While not all hospitals report their data on weekends, the province says there’s 795 people in hospital with the virus — this is the lowest number of patients we’ve seen in hospital since the end of December 2021.

This is a difference of 26 patients compared to the day before.

44 per cent of those people were admitted with COVID-19 and 56 per cent were admitted for other reasons, but tested positive with the virus after.

The province says this number only includes deaths that occurred over the past month, and six deaths from more than a month ago.

Ontario is also reporting 1,930 new cases of COVID-19, however, health officials have warned the daily case counts are not accurate due to the limited access to testing across the province.

In the past day, 14,264 tests have been completed with a 10.8 per cent positivity rate.

As for vaccinations, 92.7% of those 12 years of age and older have at least one dose, and 90.6 per cent are double vaccinated.

In the past day, 19,812 doses have been administered across the province. This is the highest number of doses administered in six days.

To date, 31,773,683 vaccine doses have been administered in Ontario.
