St. Patrick’s Day parade, Comicon return to Toronto this weekend

The St. Patrick's Day parade makes its triumphant return on Sunday and Comicon will take over the Metro Toronto Convention Centre all weekend.

If you didn’t get a chance to enjoy some green beer on Thursday, you’ll have another chance to celebrate this weekend as the St. Patrick’s Day parade makes its return to Toronto streets.

Mayor John Tory is officially proclaiming two St. Patrick’s Day’s in the city this year to make-up for the last two years. The parade was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Torontonians are owed a second St. Patrick’s Day in 2022 and what better day than March 20, the day the parade returns to Toronto,” said Tory in a statement.

“Beyond marking the continued reopening of our city, the parade as always is an opportunity to recognize and acknowledge the many contributions that Irish Canadians have made and continue to make to the cultural fabric of our city.”

The parade kicks off at noon at Bloor Street West and St. George Street and then will head east on Bloor to Yonge, then south on Yonge to Queen, and west on Queen to Nathan Phillips Square. A number of road closures will be in place for the festivities.

Comicon will also be taking place this weekend and will mark the one of the largest in-person events in the city since the pandemic began. The event is taking place from Friday until Sunday at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Tory also confirmed the CNE will be making a return this year, kicking off on Aug. 19.
