Maple Leafs place struggling Mrazek on waivers, sign Finnish goalie Sateri

The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed struggling goaltender Petr Mràzek on waivers months after signing him to a three-year, $11.4 million deal in the summer.

If Mràzek goes unclaimed, he will report to the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, who just lost goalie Joseph Woll to injury.

Mràzek has not fared well in Toronto, with a .884 save percentage in 17 appearances this season. He recently lost the starting job to 25-year-old rookie Erik Källgren, who has made the last three starts for the Maple Leafs.

Jack Campbell remains out with a rib injury.

Mràzek is under contract for the next two seasons with an average annual value of $3.8 million.

The Maple Leafs reportedly added to its goalie depth on Sunday, agreeing to a one-year, $750,000 with 32-year-old Harri Säteri, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Säteri must clear waivers before reporting to Toronto.

Säteri is a 2008 draft pick of the San Jose Sharks and only appeared in nine NHL games with the Florida Panthers in 2017-2018.

The 32-year-old won a gold medal with Finland at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. He’s also played well with Sibir Novosibirsk of the KHL in Russia, finishing their season with a .926 save percentage in 38 games.

The Maple Leafs also placed winger Kyle Clifford on waivers.
