A 25-year-old man is dead after a car was discovered submerged in Lake Ontario in Mississauga on Thursday morning.
Officers responded to a call just after 3 a.m. for reports that a vehicle was in the water near Lakeshore Road East and Lakefront Promenade.
Police say there were two occupants in the car — one managed to escape and is being treated in hospital, a second has since been located and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Members of the police dive team found the car approximately eight to 10 feet underwater when they arrived. Tow trucks assisted the dive team in removing the black car from the water.
Police have confirmed a 25-year-old man was found deceased within the car once it was removed from the lake.
Police are still trying to determine what led to the incident but believe the car entered the water via a boat launch in the area.
The investigation is ongoing.
