Unifor Local 414 and Metro have reached a tentative collective agreement and avoided strike action at the grocery company’s warehouse distribution centre in Etobicoke.
More than 900 full-time workers had voted in favour of a strike starting at 12:01 Friday morning if a deal could not be reached.
The warehouse supplies both Metro and Food Basics grocery stores across southern Ontario along the Kingston-Windsor corridor.
The workers have been without a contract since October of last year.
Details of the collective agreement will not be released until the deal is ratified.
Unifor 414 said members will be voting on the new contract in the coming days.
