Toronto police say package found outside Russian consulate not a threat

Toronto police tell CityNews a suspicious package found outside of the Russian consulate on Sunday is not a threat to public safety.
Police were called to the building located at St. Clair Avenue East and Yonge Street shortly after 1 p.m.
Officers say the hazmat teams were called in to investigate.
During the investigation, police closed down all lanes on St. Clair between Avenue and Avoca Avenue. Those roads have since reopened.

This comes as Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine, which has seen 4.5 million people flee the country, according to statistics from the United Nations.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pledged an additional $100 million in humanitarian support to respond to the crisis in Ukraine and neighbouring countries.
