4 alarm house fire in Etobicoke sends two to hospital

Two people were taken to hospital following a four-alarm blaze at a home in Etobicoke.

Emergency crews were called to a residence on Clearbrooke Circle in the area of Islington Avenue and Elmhurst Drive around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

When they arrived they found a fully engulfed structure with heavy flames and heavy smoke coming from the first and second floors.

The fire then spread to a second home, prompting officials to escalate it to a fourth alarm. Upwards of 100 firefighters were on scene at the height of the blaze, which took roughly two hours to bring under control.

Fire officials say they rescued one man on the first floor at the rear of the building while a woman managed to get out on her own.

Paramedics say two people were taken to hospital. There has been no update on their condition.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
