Durham Regional Police Police have identified a male suspect after online threats were directed toward Clarington Central Secondary School in Bowmanville.
Police were first made aware of menacing messages on Thursday evening. There is no threat to public safety, and officers will stay at the school as the investigation continues.
Screenshots show the threat was made on Instagram, where an unnamed user claimed they were going to go “ballistic” in front of the school’s main office. The individual said they were “not playing around” and warned people not to come to the school on Friday “unless y’all tryna be on the news.”
The Instagram profile has since been deleted.

Const. George Tudos says the suspect is not from Durham region. Charges are pending, Tudos adds.
The school remains open.
The investigation at the Bowmanville high school comes after Thursday’s incident in Scarborough, where several schools were forced into lockdown after a man, thought to be carrying a rifle, was shot and killed by Toronto police.
Police chief James Ramer said that the man had a confrontation with the police and that Ontario’s police watchdog had taken over the case.
Investigators confirmed on Friday that the man, a 27-year-old, was carrying a pellet gun.
