Two sleeping suspects arrested after vehicle search reveals machete, masks in Markham

York Regional Police have made a pair of arrests after a man and woman fell asleep in what officers deemed a suspicious vehicle, leading to the discovery of guns, drugs and a machete in Markham.

Investigators were called to Apollo and Fonda Roads, near Highglen and Middlefield, around 10:30 p.m. on Monday following reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area.

When police arrived, they found two people asleep in the car. A man and a woman were searched, and officers later discovered a handgun, a silencer, body armour, masks, a machete, marijuana and alcohol.

Police executed a search warrant at a residence on Tuesday and found significant amounts of ammunition.

Ajayson Premachandran, 23, of Whitby, faces nine charges, including possession of a weapon.

Kameesha Kamalanathan, 24, of Markham, faces seven charges, including careless storage of a firearm and possession of a weapon.
