Youth arrested after threats made at Orillia high school

Police have arrested a youth after an incident involving threats being made at a high school in Orillia.

Ontario Provincial Police’s (OPP) Orillia Detachment were called to Twin Lakes Secondary School on Thursday.

Police say the suspect was located off school property and placed into custody.

The school was placed in hold and secure as police investigated.

“Police were in contact with school officials throughout the incident ensuring the safety of students and staff,” the OPP said.

The suspect has been charged with four counts of utter threats causing bodily harm, and released on an undertaking for a future court date.

Police have not elaborated on what the threats entailed.

This incident is the latest in a string of threats made against schools that police across Ontario have investigated in recent days.

On Friday, police in Hamilton said they arrested a 19-year-old man after a threat was made at a high school.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, a 17-year-old boy was arrested after police in Peel Region discovered what they called disturbing messages posted online threatening a Brampton high school.

On Monday, two teens were arrested after making threats with fake guns in Aurora, resulting in two York Region schools being placed in hold and secure.

A day later, three teenagers were arrested and charged following two separate pellet gun incidents at west-end Toronto schools.
