A gold teeth grill, a birth certificate, and packs of dish soap. These are just some of the unusual items Uber riders in Canada left behind when using the ride-sharing service.
Phones, wallets, and keys once again topped the sixth annual Uber Lost and Found Index, which ranks some of the most popular items left behind over the past year. (Full lists below)
“We’ve also noticed that people are just leaving unusual things behind as well,” explained Keerthana Rang, spokesperson for Uber Canada. “We’ve got sports jerseys, sub sandwiches, tiramisu cakes, gold teeth grills, in Vancouver we’ve got skateboards, in Windsor we’ve got scanners. So it’s really interesting right across the country.”
“I always find the food items interesting because, are you really going to go back and pick up your sub sandwich or your tiramisu cake? I wonder what state it’s going to be in after a couple of hours in a car.”
Among some of the other unique items forgotten were samples of construction tile in Montreal and a Labradorite crystal – which is known for its supposed healing powers – in Winnipeg.
Riders in Quebec City top Uber’s 2022 list of most forgetful, followed by Windsor, Niagara Region, Regina and Vancouver rounding out the top five. Toronto ranked as the least forgetful city.
Gatineau managed to escape this year’s top 10 after ranking as the most forgetful city in Canada in the 2021 index.
The rideshare service says if you’re bound to forget something in a vehicle, it’s most likely going to be on a Saturday night at 9 p.m., the most forgetful day and time in the country.
“Yes, it’s to laugh at some of the surprising data but it’s also really to remind people to look at your back seats before you hop out of an Uber and also to remind people what to do if you’ve left something in your Uber,” explained Rang.
The company says the best way to retrieve a lost item is to call the driver.
If you left behind your phone, you can also log in to your account on another device, and under “Your Trips” select the “Find lost item” option.
