41-year-old man faces murder charge after fatal stabbing in Whitby

Durham police have arrested a man in connection with a stabbing in Whitby that took the life of another man on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were called to a home on Regatta Crescent, near Victoria and Brock streets, around 3:30 p.m. for a “domestic-related” stabbing.

Police arrived to find a 44-year-old male victim with life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to local hospital, where he was eventually pronounced dead.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle and was located later at a trailer park in Kirkfield, a town in Kawartha Lakes approximately 80 kilometres north of Whitby. The suspect was taken into custody without incident with assistance from Air1 and the OPP.

Zachary Gibson, a 41-year-old from Whitby, is facing a first degree murder charge.

The fatal stabbing marks Durham Region’s 10th homicide of the year.
