Toronto police arrested a man wanted for allegedly punching a woman in the face and knocking her unconscious at Kipling subway station last week.

On July 7, police received reports that a man assaulted an 85-year-old woman at the Etobicoke TTC station around 11:15 a.m.

Officers arrived at the platform level to find a woman unconscious. The victim was revived and transported to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the woman was travelling through the station when a stranger attacked her. It was confirmed the woman was targeted and punched in the face.

The suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Kelon Peters, fled the scene.

Police arrested Peters on Thursday. He’s facing multiple charges, including assault causing bodily harm, breaching probation and fraud related to fares.

Peters is expected to appear in court on Friday.

A TTC spokesperson issued a statement following the brazen attack, saying, “safety is paramount to all we do.”

“We move hundreds of millions of customers every year without incident,” Stuart Green said last week. “Still, we never take that for granted, which is why we continually look at ways to make the system even safer.”

The incident comes weeks after a woman was set on fire at Kipling station in another random attack. The woman, identified as 28-year-old Nyima Dolma, died in hospital after spending more than two weeks on life support.

Toronto resident Tenzin Norbu, 33, who appeared in court on Monday, has been charged with first-degree murder.
