Suspect sought following violent assault on Markham street

Police are searching for a suspect after an elderly woman was assaulted in Markham.

York regional police say on July 8 at around 2:30 p.m., a 74-year-old woman was walking from a nearby mall to a bus stop in the area of Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue East when a man approached her and pulled her hair, causing the woman to fall to the ground.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for her injuries.

No suspect description is available but surveillance footage released by police shows the suspect fleeing the scene by crossing the street towards a transit vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
