The closing event to this year’s Toronto Caribbean Carnival has been unexpectedly cancelled, hours before it was scheduled to get underway.
In a tweet posted by festival organizers just before 10:30 a.m. Sunday, they said Carnival Flavours has been postponed but provided no further details as to why that decision was made. They did say it would return as part of a free event scheduled for the end of August in downtown Toronto.
The sold out event, which was to have featured Caribbean food and drink, was scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m. at Stanley Barracks on the grounds of Exhibition Place. Organizers said refunds would be issued to anyone who purchased tickets.
Carnival Flavours is postponed this afternoon in order to celebrate Trinidad and Tobago's 60th Independence with a free event on Aug 27th and 28th at Yonge-Dundas Square. Full details coming soon!

The news is bound to put a slight damper on what had been a successful return for the colourful event after two years of COVID postponements.
Saturday’s parade saw feathered costumes and booming Soca music fill Toronto’s lakefront for the first time since 2019.
The festival is also a large tourist attraction for the city, with many attendees travelling from across North America to celebrate the festival’s return.
Crowds stretched for kilometres along the parade route and organizers said they expected more than one million to attend this year’s event.
