Juno Awards pick new date, shifting one day to avoid the Oscars

TORONTO — The 2023 Juno Awards are moving a day later to steer clear of Oscars night.

Organizers at the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences say next year’s show in Edmonton will shift to March 13. Originally, the biggest night in Canadian music had been set for March 12.

The Junos will now unfold on a Monday night instead of its usual Sunday celebration.

The decision comes after the Junos revealed plans for next year’s show in May only to  learn a few days later the Academy Awards set their show on the same night.

Next year’s Junos air on CBC from Rogers Place and will mark the second time the music event has been held in Edmonton.

The first was in 2004 when Alanis Morissette was host.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Aug. 4, 2022.
