Arrest warrant issued for suspect in Newmarket murder of Toronto woman

York Regional Police have issued an arrest warrant for a suspect in the murder of a 22-year-old Toronto woman late last month in Newmarket.

Police were called to a home near Prospect and Gorham streets, south of Davis Drive, at around 1:30 a.m. on July 29 for reports of an injured person.

A victim was located at the scene and taken to hospital where she was later pronounced dead from a gunshot wound.

She was identified as Nicole Mercer, 22, of Toronto.

On Tuesday, police issued a first-degree murder arrest warrant for Alexander Jolly, 23, of Newmarket.

He’s described as six foot two, 150 pounds with a thin build.

He has a fair complexion, straight brown hair and blue eyes.

Police are encouraging him to talk to a lawyer and turn himself in.
