It wasn’t a peck-nic for Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and officers in Burlington on Monday, who were forced to close a portion of the QEW to rescue 2,400 chicks off a highway in Beamsville, Ont.
“Why did 2,400 chickens try to cross the road? Because the driver forgot to close the door,” OPP tweeted.
Why did 2400 chickens try to cross the road?????????????????????????????????????????
Because the driver forgot to close the door. ????#BurlingtonOPP and public helped to get all the chicks back in the truck and on their way. Location-Ontario Street, Beamsville to #QEW Toronto bound. All clear now. pic.twitter.com/5kKAXtODgl— OPP Highway Safety Division (@OPP_HSD) August 29, 2022
It took a few hours for volunteers to gather all the yellow baby chicks from the grassy area where they landed after flying out of the back of a truck near Ontario Street.
Fortunately, it didn’t hen-der traffic for too long, and none of the yellow chicks were hurt.
Can you hand me a hen-kerchief? This writer is getting teary-eyed.
